Day 1

It’s just me. I thought it would be a good way to start things off. This project is really about me, about what I see, what I can capture, what I am feeling at the moment I snap the picture. It’s been a long month for me.

A lot has happened, things I did not expect and some I saw coming. Things which make one tired and make me think of what came before. You see me here, I’ve not slept more than 5 hours a night in the last three weeks. I’ve been spending my weekends at the hospital with my mother, who may be dying. Am I sad? Sure. Am I tired? Of course. But is the world a place of darkness, despair, and no hope? Of course not.

I sit in the light, and while tired I will survive. I can’t do anything but.

I’ve been into photography for a long time but mostly macro and similar close-up stuff. I figured it was time to branch out into more “sweeping” material. Wide angle stuff has always interested me some due to the, well, wide expanses you can capture. I do know I will need to learn to deal with things like barrel distortion. I am looking forward to the challenge the lens will provide though. I already have a few ideas regarding the harbor and the reservoir near me. If things go like I want I should be posting some stuff shortly after I get the lens.

The lens is also an attempt to force myself to take more pictures. I’ve been working more than I like lately so I hope this helps me switch gears again. That is not all I am getting though. I may be getting me a kitty! Why a kitty? Because I like cats and it would be nice to have a little cat to come home and see after work. Plus again, it may help me work less since I have to take care of the little one.

I would really like to get a Russian Blue but they can be hard to find, plus it will probably involve a waiting list of some kind. I will probably end up hitting a shelter or just checking craigslist ads. Unless someone has a kitten up for adoption?

Anyway that is what I plan on getting myself for my birthday. Whatever I end up doing I expect this birthday to be a pretty good one.
