Well another year has turned and as many are doing I am looking back at the past and looking forward to the future. Goodbye 2008 and hello 2009.

It’s Baby New Year!
We are heading into a leap year which has caused some rather interesting mishaps. For me it will be a year of anniversaries. It will be thirty years since my father passed away. It will also be my sons tenth year on this planet. An interesting balance I think.
2008 was overall a good year. While not perfect, it was personally pretty OK. I met some new friends, got to ride out a hurricane, had my share of drama, had some fun, and learned some new stuff too. I did work a bit more than I’d like but that is a chronic problem I need to address.
2009 though – I am hopeful for the coming year. There are a number of things I’d like to do this year and I hope my list will get completed. I don’t like making New Years resolutions. Instead I’ll just list what I’d like to do and to change. Here are ten things.
1. Work Less - I tend to work at a minimum of sixty hours a week. This is too much. My goal is to cut this back. This is important as everything else I’d like to do is predicated on my being able to do this.
2. Take More Pictures – This is pretty simple. I need to just do it. I do need to post more of what I take as well.
3. Do My Backpacking Vacation – Something I’ve wanted to do for some time. I just need to prepare and do it. I am thinking the Pacific Northwest.
4. Visit Ireland – I considered doing this in 2008. I went to Cancun instead and got me a hurricane. Should not be hard to do.
5. Get In Better Shape – I eat well and right I just don’t exercise as much as I should. It is mostly lack of time and energy. Reducing work should give me more time and energy.
6. Get More Sleep – This may be the hardest one. I don’t really sleep enough and would like to get more and better sleep. Let’s see if I can.
7. Be More Involved – I’ve mostly given up on politics and the notion of change for the better. The recent election has given me some hope that good things can occur. This election also saw me, for the first time, volunteering for a campaign. I worked to help Obama get elected and it felt good. I hope to do more in 2009.
8. Be More Organized – At work I tend to be pretty organized, at home not so much. I am going to make a serious attempt to change this. Suggestions are, of course, always welcome.
9. Procrastinate Less – I can be a very good procrastinator. In fact I am an expert at it. I need to my sure I get my ass in gear quicker when I need to.
10. Learn At Least One New Language – I started learning German a la Rosetta Stone over the summer. Time became scarce as work piled up though. I want to pick it back up where I left off.
So there is my list. Ten things I’d like to change/do. I hope on January 1, 2010 I can check them all off as done. 2009 will I think be a good year for me. Here is to hoping and making it so.
